Minnesota Journalists Abroad...

...broaden horizons and gain global perspectives.
Minnesota Journalists Abroad was created by a group of journalists and educators in 1998 to provide opportunities for foreign study to journalism students in Minnesota colleges and universities. The program's goal is to help these students develop the insight, cultural sensitivity and global perspective that form the foundation of compelling journalism.
The scholarship is in its eighth year. Each year the directors select one student to receive a scholarship of up to $4,000 that helps fund their experience abroad. Directors are impressed by scholarship proposals that demonstrate journalistic ingenuity, enterprise and flexibility rather than academic structure.
The Minnesota Journalists Abroad scholarship will be awarded to a mature student who looks forward to challenges and whose mind is full of questions rather than answers. The directors will require the scholarship recipient to prepare a topic of investigation suitable for publication or a video suitable for broadcast. Past recipients have gone to South America, Europe, and Asia to research political scandals, religious violence and the forestry industry. This website tells the stories of past recipients, and will guide interested students in the application process and provide information for potential donors.
